Bienvenue à Paris- the city of love, lights, and endless tourists. Its iconic landmarks, rich history, and unmistakable allure have captivated travelers from around the world. Whether you’re strolling along the Seine River, marveling at the Eiffel Tower, or indulging in the cuisine and fashion, Paris is a city that promises an unforgettable experience at every turn. I’ve had three, 48-hour experiences here and have never had a bad time. There is a variety of things to do but the ones below were my favorites.
Top Sights
- Louvre– With its iconic glass pyramid and vast collection, the Louvre is a treasure trove of masterpieces. Immerse yourself in the world’s largest art museum- grab a map and spend a few hours visiting each of the three wings, or go straight to some of the museum’s most visited works of art.
- Picasso Museum– Dedicated to showcasing the works of the legendary artist, the museum houses an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and drawings. A visit to the Picasso Museum is a must for art enthusiasts.
- Musée de l’Armée– Housed within the majestic complex of Les Invalides, this museum showcases an impressive collection of artifacts, weapons, and armor spanning centuries of warfare, from ancient times to the modern era. The main attraction is Napoleon Bonaparte’s tomb, a tribute to one of history’s most notorious military commanders.
- Eiffel Tower– The city’s most iconic landmark. Buy a ticket here and visit all 3 levels for the full Eiffel Tower experience.
- Arc de Triomphe– Standing proudly at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe is a testament to the nation’s spirit. Commissioned by Napoleon, the arch is adorned with intricate sculptures and reliefs that depict significant historical events and commemorate fallen soldiers. Ascend to the top of the monument for a view of the Parisian landscape, where the streets radiate outwards like spokes on a wheel.
- Champs-Élysées– The iconic avenue, stretching from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde, is a blend of luxury, culture, and history. From shopping at the designer boutiques, to savoring delicious French cuisine, the Champs-Élysées offers a feast that embodies the essence of Parisian charm.
- Notre Dame– The most well known cathedral in Paris, Notre Dame stands as an architectural Gothic masterpiece. There is nothing like seeing its rose windows, organ and bell towers in person. Unfortunately, the 2019 fire left its mark, severely damaging the roof. This has resulted in its closure during the reconstruction and restoration efforts until its planned completion in 2024. For now, it can only be admired from the outside, but definitely still worth visiting.
Day Trip- Versailles
Walk in the footsteps of royalty as you explore the luxurious halls, lavish chambers, and meticulously manicured gardens of this grand palace. I’ve visited once and distinctly remember walking through the Hall of Mirrors, the Trianon gardens, and Marie-Antoinette’s charming cottage. Definitely worth a visit while you’re in Paris as it’s just about an hour away by train.
